RV Dump Station Etiquette

Dump stations get busy on checkout mornings. A few habits keep the line short and the pad clean.

Quick checklist

  • Wear gloves. Keep a bucket and disinfectant in the bay.
  • Pull all the way forward so the next rig can stage behind you.
  • Open the dump valve only after the hose is seated and locked.
  • Rinse your hose and the pad when the station provides a rinse water line.
  • Close everything, recap, and leave the area as clean as you found it.
Many federal dump stations are for campground guests only. Read the campground page and the Recreation.gov notes before you assume public access.
